New Beginnings: Breaking Ground, Opening Doors

  • 36th Street Apartments for Transition Aged Youth, Los Angeles (Photos) Young adults joined Enterprise, Little Tokyo Service Center and the Coalition for Responsible Development to celebrate the grand opening of 36th Street Apartments. This new development will provide permanent homes with services for residents 18-25 years old, who have transitioned out of foster care. 36th Street Apartments will include on-site case management, life skills training, counseling, referrals to mental and physical health services, and employment training programs.
  • Bay Pines, Bay St. Louis, Miss. • High Place West Apartments, Santa Monica, Calif. Consistently ranked as one of the most expensive housing markets in the state, Santa Monica, Calif., is a tough place for working families to find affordable housing. Enterprise’s recent $8.3 million Low-Income Housing Tax Credit equity investment will help fund the development of 47 green affordable homes for families earning up to 60 percent of the area median income.

Helping Houses of Worship Create Affordable Housing
Enterprise’s Faith-Based Development Initiative was highlighted in a two-part series in the Washington Post. David Bowers, Enterprise vice president and Washington, D.C., market leader, explained how the initiative, launched in collaboration with East of the River Clergy-Police-Community Partnership,
Wesley Theological Seminary and Georgetown University, has brought a critical scale of new affordable homes to the D.C. area.

The Ramoses Story: Building a Family’s Future
Adriana and Guillermo Ramos moved to Royal City, Wash., in pursuit of steady, year-round employment as farm workers to provide their daughters with more opportunities. However, the couple found that decent affordable housing was in short supply—until they discovered Reino del Cielo, a green community designed especially for the unique needs of farmworker families. The Office of Rural and Farmworker Housing and Catholic Charities Housing Services of Yakima developed Reino del Cielo with a $7.4 million Low-Income Housing Tax Credit investment and $900,000 bridge loan from Enterprise.
